We love good music. It's for that reason that we pay attention to the business end of this enterprise. We request marketing material from our performers in order to promote their shows in our area. Because if our business flourishes; we can make the music flourish.
Here are a few details about performing at Black-Eyed Susan:
So what is Black-Eyed Susan Acoustic Café?
We're not a bar. We're not a club. We're not a coffeehouse. We are a great restaurant where music is enjoyed and shared. Several performers have said that our audience is more attentive to their music here than at other regional venues.
Time
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings and are expected to include at least two hours of music. Musicians take a break as they deem appropriate.
Suitability and Volume
We welcome and support a wide variety of musical styles at Black-Eyed Susan. However, we prefer musicians to perform on acoustic instruments so the volume can be kept at a reasonable level. Our space simply doesn't work for loud music. We're open nearly every Friday and Saturday night and invite you to see what our facility is like and how the acoustics work during a performance.
We prefer to host solos and duos; the sound level is usually more manageable. Trios and quartets can work here if the players are mature enough to realize that a quality performance does not have to be loud.
An electric guitar can work here in the hands of a talented musician.
We present live acoustic music
Our audience expects a live performance. Using a loop pedal is fine. But please don't bring pre-recorded tracks for accompaniment.
New to us?
If you want to perform here but we don't know your music, - educate us! Send us a few mp3 selections, loan us a CD or play for us on our Open Mic night, the first Thursday each month.
Sound system
Use our Bose L1 or bring your own equipment. Again, visiting us on a Friday or Saturday night will answer questions you may have. Some musicians are comfortable foregoing a PA altogether; we're that small.
Piano
We have a 1907 Franklin upright piano. Players seem to like the feel of the keyboard. Let us know if you plan to use it during your performance because we move it around the building depending on our weekly schedule.
Marketing Information/Bios
It's the music that excites us here, but money pays the bills in order to facilitate the performances. We've learned we can increase your audience if you help us well in advance by describing your musical background. We need you to supply material for our public relations effort on your behalf. Please complete and return our PR form including a photograph or two. When possible, we need your information no less than 45 days before you are scheduled to perform. Some of the regional media are monthly - we need this much lead time to get onto their pages.
Regardless of the distance between Angelica and your home, please tell your fans and friends about your gig with us.
Payment
Performers are remunerated from our customers' tips. When audiences enjoy themselves, they are often more generous. We'll encourage them to be generous, and you do your part by making sure they have an evening of outstanding music.
